Windows Live Messenger To Be Discontinued On March 15, The Death Of A Once Popular IM Service

Late last year Microsoft revealed that they are planning to retire their IM service but did not mention any time frame. Since the company took over Skype in 2011 they have been putting it in the center stage and neglecting their own IM service. Today they have released a statement that WLM will be shut down on March 15. This is a pretty logical thing to do because WLM users have been going down pretty badly over the years and its popularity also sank.
Hello,On 15th March 2013 we are retiring the existing Messenger service globally (except for mainland China where Messenger will continue to be available) and bringing the great features of Messenger and Skype together. Update to Skype and sign in using a Microsoft Account (same as your Messenger ID) and all your Messenger contacts will be at your fingertips. You'll be able to instant message and video chat with them just like before, and also discover new ways of staying in touch with Skype on your mobile and tablet. Yours sincerely,The Messenger Team
